The Torchlight Procession

The torchlit procession is a Boxing Day tradition in the village where my parents in law live and one that I was rather excited to join having heard a lot about it from my husband. After a short carol service in the local church we all walked, flaming torches in hand, towards the ruined abbey a mile down the road. I was a little apprehensive about doing the walk as I am having some trouble with my knees but it was definitely worth it. The sunset burned pink and purple as we made the walk towards the oldest Christian site in Scotland.

Cheeky cigar to keep warm on the walk.

Once we reached the abbey, we all stood around a roaring bonfire and continued to sing carols as the sky turned blacker and the stars began to appear.

After enjoying the heat of the fire we waddled back towards the cottage in search of Christmas leftovers.
